Arrest Warrant Issued for Kushtia MP Amir Hamza Over Slanderous Remarks Against DC

MP Mufti Amir Hamza faces arrest warrant for controversial comments against administration.

Staff Correspondent | dbarta24.com ; SIRAJGANJ – A court in Sirajganj has issued an arrest warrant against Mufti Amir Hamza, the Member of Parliament for the Kushtia-3 constituency. The legal action follows allegations of making controversial and unsubstantiated claims regarding the appointment and transfer of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Kushtia.

The order was delivered today, Tuesday (April 21), by the presiding judge following a scheduled hearing.

The Allegation

The controversy stems from a speech delivered by MP Amir Hamza on March 27 at the Haripur Jame Mosque in Kushtia. During the pre-sermon address, the MP claimed that the current Deputy Commissioner had spent between 20 to 30 crore BDT in bribes to secure his posting in the district.

A video recording of the speech quickly circulated on social media platforms, triggering widespread debate and concern regarding the integrity of the local administration.

Failure to Provide Proof

Following the viral video, a legal notice was served to the MP on April 13. The notice stated that such baseless remarks significantly tarnished the image of the government and the civil administration. He was granted a seven-day deadline to provide specific names and concrete evidence to support his financial allegations.

However, MP Amir Hamza failed to submit any evidence or respond with factual documentation within the stipulated timeframe.

Court Observations

The prosecution’s lawyer, Abdul Majid, argued that it is legally punishable for a responsible lawmaker to level such grave accusations against a top administrative official without any proof.

“These remarks have not only defamed a high-ranking official but have also created public confusion and mistrust in the administration. Consequently, the court has taken a strict stance by issuing an arrest warrant to ensure accountability,” said Advocate Majid.

The local administration has expressed that such statements undermine the morale of public servants, and the court’s decision marks a significant step in addressing misinformation spread by public representatives.
