Khairul Alam; Dhaka – A long wait for Bangladeshi cricket fans is finally coming to an end. Cricket Australia (CA) has officially confirmed that the Australian men’s national team will visit Bangladesh this June for a bilateral white-ball series, marking their first ODI assignment in the country in 15 years.
Ending a 15-Year Hiatus
While Australia last toured Bangladesh in 2021, that visit was exclusively for a five-match T20I series (which Bangladesh famously won 4-1). However, the last time Australia played a bilateral ODI series on Bangladeshi soil was back in 2011, where the visitors secured a 3-0 clean sweep.
Revised Schedule and Venues
The upcoming tour consists of three One Day Internationals (ODIs) and three T20 Internationals (T20Is). Originally slated for early June, the schedule was slightly adjusted due to Australia’s prior commitments in Pakistan.
-
ODI Series (Mirpur): The 50-over matches are scheduled for June 9, 11, and 14. All ODI matches will be held at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka.
-
T20I Series (Chattogram): The shortest format of the game will move to the port city. The matches will take place on June 17, 19, and 21 at the Bir Sreshtho Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium.
Bangladesh’s Return Tour to Australia
The cricketing ties between the two nations will strengthen further this year. Following the white-ball series in June, Bangladesh is set to fly to Australia in August for a two-match Test series.
This marks a historic milestone as it will be Bangladesh’s first Test tour of Australia in 18 years, with matches scheduled in Darwin and Mackay.
