Khairul Alam: The Government of Bangladesh has approved four transshipment routes for traders from the North Eastern states of India.
Indian news agency PTI gave this information on Friday (August 4) quoting a Tripura minister.
The four transit routes approved by Bangladesh are Mongla Port-Akhaura-Agartala, Chittagong-Bibirbazar-Srimantpur , Chittagong Port-Akhaura-Agartala and last one is Mongla Port-Bibirbazar-Srimantpur.
In a press conference, Tripura’s Industries and Commerce Minister Santana Chakma said that Bangladesh and India have signed an agreement on the use of Chittagong and Mongla ports for the transportation of goods by Indian traders.
The Government of Bangladesh has approved four routes for the transportation of goods to Tripura and other northeastern states of India.
Biswasree B, Tripura’s director of industries and commerce, said the routes have good freight transport potential.
The state commerce minister also said that Tripura is planning to set up nine ‘border haats’ for bilateral trade at the local level. He said, “We have already sent the proposal to set up nine ‘border huts’ on the Indo-Bangladesh border to the central government. This is under consideration.
Presently Tripura has two ‘Border Huts’ – Kamalasagar in Sipahijala district and Srinagar in South Tripura district. Work is underway on two more ‘border huts’ at Dharmanagar in North Tripura and Kamalpur in Dhalai district according to the sources said.
