Sports Desk: Bangladesh has kicked off its Women’s T20 World Cup campaign with a remarkable victory.
In the opening match, under the captaincy of Nigar Sultana Jyoti, the team triumphed over Scotland by 16 runs, marking their first win in four tournaments and a decade since their last victory.
Choosing to bat after winning the toss, Bangladesh aimed to capitalize on a good wicket. Although the start was promising, the team fell short of expectations, scoring 119 runs while losing 7 wickets. Sobhana Mostari and Sathi Rani contributed significantly, with Sathi scoring 29 runs off 32 balls and Sobhana hitting 36 runs off 38 balls, including two fours.
Despite a solid start, the team lost wickets quickly, preventing them from achieving a higher total. Nigar Sultana, playing her 100th T20 match, scored 18 runs off 18 balls, while Fahima added 10 runs.
In response, Scotland managed only 103 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. Sarah Bryce fought valiantly, remaining not out with 49 runs off 52 balls. However, her teammates struggled, with captain Kathryn Bryce scoring 11 runs.
Bangladesh’s bowling was exceptional, led by spinner Ritu Moni, who took 2 wickets for just 15 runs in 4 overs. Other bowlers, including pacer Marufa Akter and spinners Nahida, Fahima, and Rabea Khan, each claimed 1 wicket.
This victory marks a significant achievement for Bangladesh as they look to build on their success in the tournament.
