Bangladesh Youth Table Tennis Team Reaches India for Asian Youth Qualifiers

Sports Desk; Dhaka: The Bangladesh Youth Table Tennis team has arrived in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, India, to compete in the South Asian regional qualifiers for the 30th Asian Youth Championship 2026. The tournament is scheduled to take place from April 8 to April 11.

Participants and Events Host nation India and other SAARC countries are participating in this prestigious event. Bangladesh will compete in the Under-15 and Under-19 categories for boys and girls. The events include:

The Delegation A 20-member delegation led by Captain A M Maksud Ahmed Sonet, General Secretary of the Bangladesh Table Tennis Federation (BTTF), is currently in India. Former national champion Tahmina Tarmin Binu is serving as the Team Manager. The coaching staff includes Dhananjoy Shil Tirtha from BKSP and ITTF Level-2 coach Regan Baruah.

The Players The squad consists of 16 talented players, with a strong presence from BKSP (12 current and 2 former students).

Preparation and Expectations General Secretary Captain Sonet expressed high hopes for the team. He noted that the squad underwent a rigorous 33-day intensive training camp at BKSP. “Last year in Kathmandu, we won seven bronze medals but missed out on qualifying for the Asian Youth Championship.

This year, we are very optimistic about qualifying,” he stated. He added that since this is the final junior tournament for several top players, the team is motivated to bring home a memorable result for the nation.
