Kolkata Bureau: The Leader of the Opposition in West Bengal, Suvendu Adhikari, has announced the formal implementation of the Central Government’s 2019 Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in the state.
The announcement came on Wednesday following a high-level meeting with officials of the Border Security Force (BSF) at Nabanna, the state secretariat.
During the meeting, the BJP leader made controversial remarks regarding Bangladesh, alleging that a major portion of those involved in criminal and antisocial activities in the state are illegal infiltrators from Bangladesh.
“From today, a ‘3D’ system is being launched in the state—Detect, Delete, and Deport,” Suvendu declared.
Elaborating on the move, the BJP leader stated, “The central government sent a letter to the state a year ago instructing that infiltrators be handed over directly to the BSF. The previous West Bengal government opposed the CAA and did not enforce it. But we have implemented it today.”
Suvendu further clarified that anyone not covered under the CAA framework will be treated as an illegal infiltrator.
“The state police will directly arrest and detain them, then hand them over to the BSF. The BSF will then coordinate with the BDR (Border Guard Bangladesh) to arrange their deportation. In short, the law of Detect, Delete, and Deport is effective from today,” he added.
