Court Report: The High Court has directed the formation of a high-level inquiry committee to reassess all power agreements between the Adani Group and India.
The bench, led by Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Debashis Roy Chowdhury, issued the order on Tuesday.
The committee will include international energy experts and legal specialists, as per the court’s instructions.
The Cabinet Secretary has been tasked with forming the committee within a month, which will then be required to submit its report within the following two months.
The court also issued a rule questioning why the agreement with Adani related to power supply should not be canceled.
Additionally, the court has ordered the submission of documents related to the negotiation process during the agreement with Adani.
The controversial power purchase agreement was signed in 2017 under the Ministry of Power’s directive, amidst concerns that no coal-based power plants had been operational in the country at that time.
One of the agreements involved a 25-year power purchase contract with Adani, specifically to supply 1,600 MW of electricity from its plant in Jharkhand to Bangladesh.
On September 28, a national review committee meeting decided to collect detailed data from 11 power plants, including those linked to Adani’s operations.
