Special Correspondent: The Cyber Security Bill, 2023 has been tabled in Parliament to replace the much-discussed Digital Security Act, 2018.
By repealing the Digital Security Act, of 2018, a new bill named Cyber Security Bill, of 2023 has been introduced to ensure cyber security and to make new provisions for the detection, prevention, suppression, and prosecution of crimes committed through digital or electronic means and related matters.
State Minister for Information and Communication Technology Junaid Ahmed Palak introduced the bill in the National Assembly session on Tuesday (September 5). At this time Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury presided over the session.
Opposition Jatiya Party member Fakhrul Imam objected to the introduction of the bill. But it was rejected by the votes of the parliamentarians.
Later, the bill was further examined and sent to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology to report to Parliament within 5 working days.
