Bangladesh Dengue Surge: 6 Dead in 24 Hours as September Toll Hits 148
Labonnya Liza; Dbarta24 — Bangladesh’s dengue situation continues to deteriorate rapidly, with six more deaths and 1,948 new hospitalizations recorded across the country in the last 24 hours.
The latest fatalities bring the total death toll for September alone to 148, making it the deadliest month of the year so far for the mosquito-borne virus.
According to the latest daily bulletin released by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Wednesday (September 30), the data reflects hospital admissions and fatalities recorded between 8:00 AM Tuesday and 8:00 AM Wednesday.
Regional Breakdown of Fatalities and Hospitalizations
Of the six patients who succumbed to the fever in the last 24 hours, two were undergoing treatment in Khulna division.
The remaining four deaths were reported from hospitals under the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), Barishal division, Chattogram division, and Rangpur division, with one casualty each.
Nationwide hospitalization numbers remain alarmingly high:

Chattogram Division: Recorded the highest single-day admissions outside Dhaka, with 343 new patients.

Dhaka City Corporations: DSCC hospitals admitted 210 new patients, while Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) facilities enrolled 189.

Dhaka Division (Outside City Limits): 320 new patients were admitted.

Other Divisions: Khulna reported 248 cases, Barishal 212, Rajshahi 211, Mymensingh 102, Rangpur 99, and Sylhet 14.

With the latest updates, the nationwide dengue death toll for 2026 has escalated to 245. A month-by-month trajectory published by the DGHS highlights a dramatic surge heading into the post-monsoon period:

Since January 1, a cumulative total of 79,620 dengue patients have been admitted to hospitals across Bangladesh. Among them, 73,890 patients have recovered and been discharged following treatment, while thousands remain under medical care in packed hospital wards nationwide.
