EC will take action against fake information on Facebook about parliamentary elections

Political Report: Fake information has been spread on the social media Facebook about the schedule and polling of the 12th National Parliament.

Election Commission (EC) Additional Secretary Ashok Kumar Debnath has confirmed that the information published on Facebook about the national election schedule, symbol allocation and vote collection was fake on Friday (August 25) night.

He said that the matter will be presented to the commission to take action against this false information. What is being promoted on Facebook about the 12th National Parliament Election – 2023:

The schedule will be announced on November 9 (Thursday). November 19 (Sunday) is the last date for submission of nomination papers. Nomination papers will be scrutinized on November 22 (Wednesday).

November 29 (Wednesday) is the last date for withdrawal of nomination papers. Allotment of symbols will take place on November 30 (Thursday) and voting will be held on December 23 (Saturday).

The information being circulated on Facebook is fake. The Election Commission never gives information about the schedule of national elections so far in advance.

Earlier, the EC held a meeting with the social media authority Meta to prevent propaganda content that spreads sectarianism, hatred and violence on Facebook around the 12th Parliament elections on August 3.

He said the main issue was how to prevent the propaganda that happens on Facebook, especially hateful comments, sectarianism or other violations. They will block and delete them.
