Asalata Hira , Dhaka – In the Bangladeshi film industry, Eid means the grand arrival of new movies, packed theatres, and stars connecting with their fans.
Every year, audience expectations run sky-high. Film lovers constantly debate which star will transform themselves, which story will touch hearts, and who will break out of their comfort zone.
This Eid, however, the spotlight is shining brightest on the actresses. Moving beyond traditional glamorous roles, they are taking on diverse characters and complex acting challenges.
From fierce action heroes to mysterious figures and simple rural women, these actresses are serving as the driving force of this season’s stories.
Sabila Nur as the Romantic Lead in ‘Rockstar’
Sabila Nur is currently one of the busiest faces on the big screen. After starting her journey alongside Shakib Khan in Tandav and receiving praise for Banalata Express last Eid, she is returning with the highly anticipated film Rockstar.
“A movie starring Shakib Khan always brings something different,” Sabila said. “I am thrilled to be part of Rockstar. Audiences will see Shakib Khan in a completely fresh way, and the story is very unique.” Sabila plays the character of Mira, the love interest of the titular rockstar, Agun.
Mim’s Action Surprise in ‘Malik’
Bidya Sinha Mim is returning this Eid in an entirely new avatar. Starring opposite Arifin Shuvoo in the film Malik, Mim will be seen in a high-octane action role. She underwent rigorous martial arts and action choreography training for the character.
“Audiences are used to seeing me in a certain way, but Malik will shatter that image,” Mim shared. “I had to break myself down both physically and mentally for the role of Maya.” This film marks the reunion of Mim and Shuvoo after four years since Saphludu. Mim believes the commercial film offers a deeply layered and challenging character that will surprise viewers.
Nabila Transforms into ‘Banalata Sen’
Director Masud Hasan Ujjwal brings a literature-inspired rural drama to life with Banalata Sen. Masuma Rahman Nabila plays the mysterious woman inspired by poet Jibanananda Das’s iconic poem. Nabila had to clear multiple auditions and undergo physical changes to adapt to the character.
“There is a sense of loneliness and beauty in this character. I tried to portray her naturally,” Nabila explained. While happy to have her second Eid release, she admitted feeling nervous about returning to theatres after a long break, hoping audiences embrace this unconventional genre.
Nazifa Tushi’s Mysterious Character in ‘Roid’
Following her previous Eid release Pressure Cooker, Nazifa Tushi is back in theatres with Roid, directed by Meiibaor Rahman Sumon. She plays a wild, unconventional, and psychologically complex character. To fully embody the role, Tushi spent an extended period living in remote rural areas.
“The character is very strange and mentally intense,” Tushi said. “It is not a typical commercial ‘masala’ film. You cannot expect another Hawa. It is a film that requires you to pause and feel every emotion.”
Bubly in a Negative Role for ‘Pinik’
Shabnom Bubly is set to surprise fans by playing a negative character for the first time in the psychological thriller Pinik. Although the movie has faced release delays in past seasons, creating some uncertainty, Bubly remains excited about the challenge.
“I always want to do different work, and Pinik allowed me to do that,” Bubly stated. However, she has remained out of the promotional spotlight for months, sparking industry rumors of a potential maternity break.
Puja Chery’s Double Surprise
After creating a buzz with Dum last Eid, Puja Chery is gearing up for a double treat. She is currently on the release list for two completely different films: the spy thriller Masud Rana and the rural romance Nakphuler Kabyo.
While minor release uncertainties remain among the production houses, Puja is thrilled about the dual showcase. “Both characters are polar opposites. One is full of action and thrill, while the other is pure rural romance. As an actress, experiencing such variety in one festival is wonderful,” Puja remarked.
