Eiffel Tower evacuated due to bomb attack

Foreign Desk: The famous Eiffel Tower in the French capital Paris has been evacuated due to the fear of a bomb attack. The country’s authorities said three floors of the Eiffel Tower and its courtyard were evacuated on Saturday as a security precaution.

Millions of people from all over the world come to Paris every year to see this most famous tower in France. Last year more than 6.2 million people came to Paris to see the tower.

The Eiffel Tower’s management agency said bomb disposal experts searched the entire area.  Police also searched a restaurant located on one of the floors of the tower.

An agency spokesperson said, conducting searches in such circumstances is an absolutely normal procedure. Although such cases are rare.

Visitors were evacuated from three floors of the Eiffel Tower and below the monument shortly after 1:30 p.m. local time on Saturday.

There is a police station on the southern pillar of the Eiffel Tower. Officials conduct video surveillance and security checks before allowing visitors to enter the tower premises.

The construction of this famous tower in France started in January 1887. The construction of this historic structure was completed on 31 March 1889. When the tower opened in 1889, the World’s Fair was attended by approximately two million visitors.
