Extremely Warm Relations Between the United States and Bangladesh

Diplomatic Correspondent: Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister, Dr. A.K. Abdul Momen, has stated that there exists an extremely warm relationship between Bangladesh and the United States.

President Joe Biden of the United States aims to further strengthen and solidify this relationship.

During a press briefing in New York, the Foreign Minister made these remarks. He also mentioned that they are open to receiving advice from friends and allies.

He stated, “We have received a lot of advice from them. If the advice is practical, we will definitely consider it.”

Prior to this, at the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Derek Shollet, the U.S. Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, met with the Bangladeshi Foreign Minister.

After the meeting, Shollet shared the subject of their discussion in a tweet message, saying, “We discussed our cooperation regarding economic development, climate change, and the importance of freedom of expression and democracy protection.”

Shollet is expected to visit Dhaka in February of next year. During his visit, he engaged in discussions with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the Foreign Minister, and representatives of Bangladesh’s civil society and humanitarian organizations.

During these meetings, Shollet reiterated American support for Bangladesh in addressing the Rohingya crisis and emphasized the importance of free and fair elections in the country.

He also stressed the significance of human rights protection, climate change mitigation, and collaboration in establishing a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
