Heavy Rainfall and Mountain Landslide Warnings in Bangladesh
Climate Report: The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has issued warnings of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in some parts of the country due to the influence of an active monsoon season.
In a statement signed by meteorologist M. Monwar Hossen, it has been revealed that within the next 48 hours, starting from Tuesday evening (September 19), heavy (44-88 mm) to extremely heavy (89 mm or more) rainfall is expected in various regions of the country.
Due to the possibility of extremely heavy rainfall, there is concern about potential mountain landslides in the hilly areas of the Chittagong division.
Additionally, on Wednesday (September 20) until 9 a.m., a weather forecast has indicated that intermittent rain or thunderstorms with gusty winds may affect internal river ports in the following regions: Rangpur, Dinajpur, Rajshahi, Pabna, Bogura, Tangail, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Faridpur, Jessore, Kushtia, Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Comilla, Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, and Sylhet regions, moving from the south or southeast at a speed of 45-60 km/h temporarily.
River port authorities in these areas are advised to take precautionary measures as this is considered a level 1 warning signal.
