US Warns of Rapid Escalation in Middle East After Houthis Strike Riyadh

Dbarta24 Desk- The United States State Department has issued a stark warning regarding the potential for rapid military escalation in the Middle East, following a unprecedented missile attack on Saudi Arabia’s capital, Riyadh, by Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels.

The alarm was raised after loud explosions rocked the Saudi capital twice on Saturday. Journalists at the scene reported seeing a massive fire engulfing an oil tanker bearing the logo of the state-owned energy giant, Aramco, near the airport. The direct strike on key infrastructure in Riyadh marks a significant and dangerous shift in the ongoing conflict between Saudi Arabia and the Yemeni insurgent group.

Following the strikes, the US Department of State urged American citizens abroad to reconsider any travel plans to the region, highlighting that the conflict has the “potential to escalate rapidly.”

Adding to the sense of urgency, US President Donald Trump unexpectedly cut short his weekend trip in Maryland and returned to the White House. While official sources have not explicitly confirmed the reason for his sudden departure, the move closely coincides with the dramatic surge in regional hostilities.

In recent operations, the Iran-aligned Houthis have made substantial territorial gains across vast areas of Yemen. The fierce fighting between Houthi rebels and Saudi-backed government forces has already claimed hundreds of lives. According to estimates by the United Nations, the escalating violence has displaced more than 110,000 people, worsening an already severe humanitarian crisis.
