ICC to Introduce Changes in T20 Acceptance Rules

Sports Desk: The International Cricket Council (ICC) is set to bring changes to the rules of acceptance for T20 leagues held within countries.

According to the existing rules, T20 leagues conducted within ICC-assisting countries do not receive the recognition of T20 International status. However, the cricket’s governing body is now set to make amendments to this rule.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) has been granted T20 International status by the ICC. This recognition was bestowed after the inaugural tournament organized by the cricket boards of participating countries.

The upcoming franchise tournament in the UAE, organized by the IPL, will officially record all match statistics from its next edition.

The achievement of T20 International status is being viewed as a significant milestone by the IPL, according to league officials. David White, the CEO of the league, expressed gratitude to the ICC for this recognition, considering it a major achievement for the Deep International League T20.

He stated, “Receiving this recognition is a huge milestone for the Deep International League T20. We thank the ICC for this acknowledgment, which reflects the strength and credibility of our league.”

The second edition of the tournament is scheduled to commence on January 19 and conclude on February 17. The IPL T20 features a total of six teams, with three of them being owned by IPL franchises. The inaugural edition of this tournament was won by the Gulf Giants.
