India Clinches Asia Cup Championship, Overpowers Sri Lanka

Khairul Alam: In a stunning turn of events, Sri Lanka, the defending champions of the Asia Cup, failed to maintain their grip on the title as they faced a crushing defeat in the final against India.

The final match, played on Sunday, witnessed a dramatic turn of events with Sri Lanka struggling to put up a competitive batting performance.

Sri Lanka began their innings with high hopes in the Asia Cup final. However, their start resembled a nightmare as they crumbled under the devastating bowling attack of India.

Pacer Mohammad Siraj made a remarkable impact in the fourth over, grabbing four wickets and leaving Sri Lanka in disarray.

By the sixth over, Sri Lanka had already lost five wickets, with Kusal Mendis making a valiant effort to resist the Indian bowlers. But even he couldn’t escape Siraj’s lethal delivery, getting bowled out.

Sri Lanka lost their last three wickets for just 12 runs, setting a meager target of 50 runs, which was the lowest-ever One Day International (ODI) score against India.

The final match unfolded with unexpected twists, but Sri Lanka’s batsmen couldn’t withstand the fierce pace attack from India. In the third ball of the innings, Kusal Perera was caught off guard by Jasprit Bumrah’s delivery, leading to his dismissal for just 2 runs.

Bumrah’s fiery spell continued, and in quick succession, he sent Sadira Samarawickrama (0) and Charith Asalanka (0) back to the pavilion.

A hat-trick seemed imminent, but Bumrah narrowly missed it. However, with a single delivery, he dismissed Dhananjaya de Silva (4), securing the fifth wicket for India.

In a matter of just one over, Sri Lanka found themselves at 12 runs for the loss of five wickets. Siraj, with his exceptional bowling, continued to torment Sri Lanka. In the 7th over, Sri Lanka’s last hope,

Kusal Mendis, attempted to build a partnership with Wanindu Hasaranga, adding 21 runs. However, their resistance was short-lived as Siraj bowled out Mendis for 33 runs, breaking the sixth wicket partnership.

In the end, it was Hardik Pandya who delivered the final blow. With two wickets in his second spell, he dismissed Shehan Jayasuriya and Mathisha Pathirana, securing a comprehensive victory for India.

Siraj’s exceptional bowling performance ensured India’s triumph in the Asia Cup. The official ceremony concluded in the 6.1 over.

India’s openers, Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill, remained unbeaten at 23 and 27 runs, respectively, securing the eighth Asia Cup trophy for their team.

In the seventh over, Ishan Kishan’s single run marked the winning moment, as India secured an emphatic victory in the Asia Cup final, winning by ten wickets.

This victory marked India’s triumph in the Asia Cup, adding another feather to their cricketing cap.
