Khairul Alam ; Desk Report – Another World Cup, another new dream. Reigning world champions Argentina have officially launched their mission to capture a fourth trophy ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, hosted jointly by the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
Albiceleste captain Lionel Messi arrived in Kansas City, USA, on Monday morning (Bangladesh time). Traveling via private jet from Miami alongside teammate Rodrigo De Paul, Messi joined the national team camp, looking fully prepared to shine in what will be his historic sixth World Cup appearance.
While Messi and De Paul were among the last to arrive, the main contingent of the Argentina squad had already landed in Kansas after departing from Buenos Aires.
In a nod to the nation’s footballing history, Julian Alvarez, Enzo Fernandez, Nicolas Otamendi, and others arrived on a chartered flight numbered “AR 1978″—a symbolic reminder of Argentina’s maiden World Cup triumph in 1978 that perfectly mirrors the team’s current ambitions.
Head coach Lionel Scaloni has brought an 18-player squad to the camp, supplemented by several young players to assist in training sessions.
Premier League stars Lisandro Martinez and goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez have also joined the camp. Despite sporting a full bandage on his hand, sources confirm there are no concerns regarding Emiliano Martinez’s fitness or availability to play.
Meanwhile, Argentine Football Association (AFA) President Claudio Tapia has yet to join the squad, as he is currently in Budapest, Hungary, attending the Champions League final. He is expected to join the camp shortly.
The Argentine team is stationed at the newly constructed Origin Hotel in Kansas City, which will serve as their base throughout the tournament.
Strict and rigorous training sessions began at dawn on Monday at the Sporting KC Training Center, located just 20 minutes from the hotel. The players are focusing heavily on acclimatization, keeping in mind the highly volatile local weather at this time of year, which brings intense heat, humidity, and sudden storms.
The Albiceleste’s official social media accounts shared multiple photos and videos of the players’ arrival. While the footage of Lionel Messi leading the squad into Kansas captivated global fans, an intriguing piece of trivia has sparked widespread curiosity online.
The main talking point among fans is Messi’s room assignment. At the Origin Hotel Kansas City, the captain will be staying in Room 202.
Numerology and superstitious fans have already begun drawing parallels to Argentina’s triumphant Qatar World Cup campaign, where Messi stayed in Room 201. Back then, the digits added up to 3 ($2 + 0 + 1 = 3$), mirroring their hunt for a third star. This time, the digits of Room 202 add up to 4 ($2 + 0 + 2 = 4$).
Outpouring on social media, passionate Argentine fans are hoping that following the glories of 1978, 1986, and 2022, this number “4” will guide the Albiceleste straight to their fourth World Cup trophy.
