Iran and US Claim ‘Historic Victory’ in Conflict; Netanyahu Faces Backlash from Opponents

International Desk: The Supreme National Security Council of Iran announced a “historic victory” on Wednesday, claiming they successfully pressured the United States into accepting a 10-point proposal ahead of scheduled talks.

The proposal includes guarantees against future attacks, continued Iranian control of the Strait of Hormuz, the lifting of sanctions, the withdrawal of US troops from the region, and war reparations.

Iranian officials emphasized that detailed negotiations will begin this Friday in Islamabad, Pakistan, though they clarified that these talks do not signify an immediate end to the war.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump, in an interview with AFP, declared a “complete victory” for the United States by securing a two-week ceasefire. Trump credited China for bringing Iran to the negotiating table and assured that Iran’s enriched uranium and nuclear fuel would be “perfectly looked after.” While uncertainty remains over the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz for oil tankers, Trump noted that a 15-point long-term framework is in motion.

A Disaster for Netanyahu

While the US and Iran celebrate, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is facing a political storm at home. Opposition leader Yair Lapid condemned the ceasefire, calling it an unprecedented “political disaster.”

“Israel was nowhere near the negotiating table when decisions regarding our core national security were being made,” Lapid wrote on X.

He praised the military and the public for their resilience but accused Netanyahu of failing strategically to achieve a single one of his stated war objectives.
