Staff Reporter ; Dhaka – For the second time in a single month, the price of private sector Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) has increased at the consumer level. This time, the price has risen by Tk 17.62 per kg. Earlier in April, the price had already seen an increase of Tk 32.30 per kg.
As a result, the price of the most commonly used 12 kg LPG cylinder has jumped from Tk 1,728 to Tk 1,940, marking an increase of Tk 212.
The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) announced the new rates this Sunday, which will take effect from 6:00 PM today.
Last month, a 12 kg cylinder was priced at Tk 1,341. At the beginning of April, it was increased by Tk 387 to reach Tk 1,728. BERC stated that this latest adjustment is due to rising shipping costs caused by global conflict.
Key Price Adjustments:
-
Per KG LPG: Now fixed at Tk 161.66.
-
Auto Gas: Increased to Tk 89.50 per liter (previously Tk 79.77).
-
Government LPG: The price for a 12.5 kg cylinder remains unchanged at Tk 525.
While BERC regulates prices monthly based on the Saudi Aramco Contract Price (CP), consumers often complain that retailers charge more than the fixed rates in the local market.
