Measles and Related Symptoms Death Toll Surpasses 500 in Bangladesh

Labonnya Liza ; dhaka – The death toll from measles and measles-related symptoms has surpassed a grim milestone in Bangladesh, climbing to 512 as 13 more children tragically passed away in the last 24 hours.

Among the latest fatalities, at least one has been laboratory-confirmed as a measles death.

According to the latest measles situation report released by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Saturday (May 23), an additional 1,967 children across the country have exhibited measles symptoms during this 24-hour period.

Hospitalization and Recovery Rates

DGHS data reveals that since the current spike began on March 15, a staggering total of 62,507 children have shown symptoms of the highly contagious disease nationwide.

The outbreak has severely strained healthcare facilities, with 49,389 children admitted to various hospitals across the country due to measles-related complications.

On a positive note, medical professionals have successfully treated and discharged 45,111 children, who have since returned home fully recovered.

Health authorities continue to monitor the situation closely as nationwide surveillance and response efforts persist.
