Diplomatic Correspondent: The Foreign Minister of Bangladesh AK Abdul Momen and visiting Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov sat in the bilateral meeting. Momen-Lavrov sat in a meeting at a hotel in the capital on Thursday (September 7) at 7:20 p.m.
Issues related to the interests of the two countries will come up in the bilateral talks. In this regard, in the meeting of foreign ministers of the two countries, Dhaka-Moscow relations will be strengthened, Ruppur nuclear power project situation, trade, investment, and the Rohingya issue will be on the discussion table.
Besides, there is a possibility of discussing various issues including the Ukraine situation, geopolitics, and food security. Sources also believe that Dhaka will give importance to energy cooperation and the import of wheat and fertilizers from Russia.
The two foreign ministers will attend the dinner after the bilateral meeting. Momen-Lavrov is expected to discuss support and cooperation at the United Nations, regional, and other global forums.
There will be no agreement between Dhaka and Moscow during the visit of the Russian Foreign Minister.
Lavrov arrived in Dhaka at 6:17 p.m. on Thursday. Foreign Minister Dr. Momen welcomed Lavrov at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. At that time, Alexander Mantitsky, the ambassador of Russia, was also assigned to Dhaka.
On the second day of the visit, Friday (September 8) in the morning, the Russian Foreign Minister will pay tribute to Father of the Nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi No. 32. He will then pay a courtesy call to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Ganabhaban.
After completing all the formalities, the Russian Foreign Minister will leave for New Delhi from Dhaka to attend the G-20 conference.
