Sports Reporter – Bangladesh’s veteran batter Mushfiqur Rahim has been named the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for May 2026, following his monumental performance in the recently concluded home Test series against Pakistan.
This marks the second time the dependable batsman has claimed the prestigious monthly honor, having previously won it in May 2021.
Mushfiqur emerged victorious after facing stiff competition from fellow national teammate Taijul Islam and Nepal’s rising all-rounder Dipendra Singh Airee.
His pivotal role with the bat was the cornerstone of Bangladesh’s historic performance in the red-ball format.
During the two-match Test series against a formidable Pakistani bowling attack, Mushfiqur was in sublime form, amassing 235 runs at a stellar average of 63.25.
His ability to anchor the innings under pressure provided Bangladesh with the stability needed to dominate the visitors on home soil.
Expressing his gratitude upon receiving the award, Mushfiqur Rahim emphasized the significance of being recognized in the ultimate format of the game.
“Being chosen as the ICC Men’s Player of the Month once again is a massive honor for me,” Mushfiqur said. “I am particularly delighted to receive this recognition for my performance in Test cricket.
My teammate Taijul also played a crucial role in our memorable series victory against Pakistan. This win is something we will all cherish for a very long time.”
The victory has also injected fresh momentum into Bangladesh’s campaign in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship (WTC) cycle, helping them climb up the standings.
“As a result of this series win, we have been able to progress in the ICC World Test Championship points table, making this achievement even more special for the entire team,” Mushfiqur added. “I am deeply grateful for the unwavering support of my teammates and the management. I look forward to contributing even more to Bangladesh’s success in the coming months.”
With crucial international assignments on the horizon, Mushfiqur’s roaring form and veteran leadership bodes exceptionally well for the Tigers as they look to establish themselves as a more consistent force in the Test arena.
