Barisal, Bangladesh: In preparation for the upcoming Durga Puja festival, over 10 tons of hilsa fish have been sent from Port Road in the city of Barisal to India for the second time.
On Friday night (September 22), two exporters facilitated the shipment of this hilsa.
Nirab Hossen Tutul, the of Barisal District Fisheries Association, sent 8 tons of hilsa, while Khan Habib, a businessman from Port Road Mokam, sent more than 60 maunds (over 2 tons) of hilsa through Dhaka’s JE Enterprise.
Previously, 19 tons of hilsa were sent from Barisal as well. It’s worth noting that the price of the exported fish in the second consignment is lower than that in the local market. Hilsa fish, measuring 600 to 900 grams in size, were sold at a rate of 58,000 Bangladeshi Taka per maund at the Port Road market on Friday.
This translates to approximately 1,450 Taka per kilogram. In contrast, the price of hilsa sent to India is around 10 dollars per kilogram, equivalent to 1,100 Taka. The increase in hilsa prices is due to a shortage in supply.
