Russian President Vladimir Putin with Chinese President Xi Jinping during a meeting ahead of the SCO Summit in Tianjin 2025

Putin to Visit China Next Week for Four Days

Desk Report: Russian President Vladimir Putin will travel to China next week for a four-day visit. He will attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Tianjin, scheduled for August 31 to September 1, according to Russian media.

Pavel Zarubin, a Kremlin-linked commentator, confirmed the visit, saying that large-scale discussions are planned between Russian and Chinese representatives. However, details about the topics of discussion were not shared.

Russian media quoted Zarubin, stating, “Vladimir Putin will go to China for a four-day visit. Big talks are planned between Russian and Chinese delegations.”

Ukraine’s news agency RBC-Ukraine reported that Putin will join the SCO summit in Tianjin. The summit will include leaders from various countries, government delegations from over 20 nations, and representatives from 10 international organizations, according to China’s Assistant Foreign Minister Liu Bin.

Russian news outlet RT said Chinese President Xi Jinping will also meet foreign leaders and international officials in Beijing and along the Hai River, which connects Beijing and Tianjin.

In July, The Times reported that President Xi Jinping wanted to arrange a three-way meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump and Putin. Xi also planned to invite Trump to a parade in September to mark the end of World War II. Putin has already accepted the invitation and is expected to attend the event.

However, the Kremlin later denied these claims. Putin’s press secretary, Dmitry Peskov, said Moscow was unaware of any plans for a three-way meeting.

The last meeting between Xi Jinping and Putin was in May, when Xi visited Moscow for Russia’s Victory Day celebrations. That visit lasted several days.
