International Sports Desk – FIFA has officially released the final squads for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup, featuring a record-breaking 1,248 footballers across 48 participating nations.
Jointly hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the United States, this tournament marks the first time in history that 48 teams will compete, signaling the dawn of a new era in global football.
With exactly one week left until the tournament kicks off, excitement is reaching a fever pitch worldwide for the massive 104-match event.

The final list reveals a fascinating blend of seasoned veterans and fresh talent. A total of 357 players have been named to a World Cup squad at least once before, while 891 players are gearing up to experience the prestigious tournament for the very first time. Furthermore, 22 previous World Cup winners are returning to the grand stage.
Football icons Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Mexican goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa are set to carve their names deeper into sports history. All three legendary figures are preparing to play in their sixth World Cup—a unique and unprecedented feat.
The tournament also boasts incredible age diversity. Scotland’s 43-year-old goalkeeper, Craig Gordon (aged 43 years and 162 days), stands as the oldest player in the tournament.
In contrast, Mexico’s Gilberto Mora is the youngest at just 17 years and 240 days old. The squads feature 22 players under the age of 20, alongside seven players aged 40 or older.
According to FIFA guidelines, associations submitted a provisional list of 35 to 55 players (including at least four goalkeepers) by May 11. The final 26-man squads were submitted by June 1, leading to FIFA’s official comprehensive announcement on June 2.
