Desk Report: The Russian government has granted permission for trade in Russian rubles with 31 “friendly and impartial” countries, including Bangladesh. This information was confirmed by the Russian Embassy in Dhaka on Saturday, September 23.
According to a post on the embassy’s verified Facebook page, the Russian government has approved a list of more than 30 friendly and impartial countries, banks, and brokers for transactions in the Russian ruble.
Among the countries granted permission for transactions in rubles are Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Algeria, Bangladesh, Bahrain, Brazil, Venezuela, Vietnam, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Iran, Qatar, China, Cuba, Malaysia, Morocco, Mongolia, Oman, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Thailand, Turkey, South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates.
According to Russian sources, this permission will enable transactions in the Russian ruble, allowing these countries, including Bangladesh, to potentially acquire the currency and use it for trade purposes.
This could create new opportunities for bilateral commercial relations and contribute to the economic growth of Bangladesh.
We hope that more detailed information about this proposal will become available and that it will help facilitate new dimensions in the economic relationship between the two countries.
