Vote Bangladesh:There are 42,500 polling centers for 12th parliamentary elections

Khairul Alam: More than 2,200 polling centers may increase in the upcoming 12th National Assembly elections. This information was received from the draft list of polling stations of the Election Commission. In the draft, the EC has given information about 42,500 polling booths.

Election Commission officials said the list of draft polling centers has been published for local level objections. Whose coordination is done centrally by the Election Commission Secretariat.

Polling centers are increasing due to an increase in the number of voters, a communication system and demand from local people. This number may be more or less after settlement of claims.

It may be known that in the next 12th National Parliament elections, the number of polling centers may increase from 40 thousand 183 to 42 thousand 400. Compared to the 11th parliamentary elections, this time the number of polling centers increased by more than two thousand.

At the same time, polling booths could increase from 2 lakh 7 thousand 399 to 2 lakh 61 thousand 500 in the last election. In such a situation, the center increased by 26 percent. But the Election Commission may be more or less final.

Officials said that out of 10 EC areas, this time the center is increasing more in the Comilla area. The sector is growing at the rate of 10 per cent. There can be 4 thousand 700 election centers in this area.

The last date for getting objections to the draft center released on Wednesday is August 31. The last date for disposal of these claims and objections is September 11 and the list of draft polling stations will be finalized on September 17.

Election Commission Additional Secretary Ashok Kumar Debnath said that after finalizing the draft list of polling centers by September, the EC will publish the gazette at least 25 days before the election as per the rules and regulations.

In the last 11th parliamentary election, there were 40 thousand 183 polling centers and 2 lakh 7 thousand 319 polling booths for more than 104 million voters.

In the 10th parliamentary elections, there were 37 thousand 707 centers and 1 lakh 89 thousand 78 polling booths for 9 crore 19 lakh voters. In the ninth parliamentary election, there were 35 thousand 263 centers and 1 lakh 77 thousand 277 polling booths for 8 crore 10 lakh voters.
