16 More Children Die of Measles Symptoms in Bangladesh, Death Toll Reaches 528

Health Desk – At least 16 more children have died from measles-related symptoms across Bangladesh in the last 24 hours (from 8:00 AM Saturday to 8:00 AM Sunday).

With these latest fatalities, the total death toll from measles and suspected measles symptoms has reached 528 since March 15 of this year.

Furthermore, a total of 1,306 new children were reported with measles symptoms nationwide over the last day. This information was revealed today, Sunday, in the regular measles report released by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Regional Breakdown of Recent Deaths

According to DGHS data, the 16 children who died in the past 24 hours exhibited various severe symptoms of measles. The regional distribution of these deaths is as follows:

  • Dhaka Division: 10 deaths

  • Mymensingh Division: 2 deaths

  • Rajshahi Division: 1 death

  • Sylhet Division: 1 death

  • Barisal Division: 1 death

  • Rangpur Division: 1 death

Overall Situation and Hospitalization

The DGHS report further highlights that since March 15, a staggering 63,813 children across the country have shown symptoms of measles. Among the infected, 50,558 children required hospital admission.

On a positive note, 46,214 children have fully recovered and returned home after receiving hospital treatment. The remaining infected children are currently undergoing treatment at various hospitals nationwide.

Doctors’ Advice

Health experts and physicians have strongly urged parents to ensure immediate measles vaccination for their children to protect them from the outbreak. They also advised contacting the nearest health complex without delay if any symptoms of measles appear.
