Entertainment Desk; Dbarta24 – Aamir Khan has offered fans an update on a possible sequel to 3 Idiots : director Rajkumar Hirani is working on the script, and Khan expects to hear its final version in the coming weeks.
He shared the news during a conversation at the Singapore International Film Festival on October 22.
Asked about the project, Khan said, “I’m not allowed to say a lot,” before confirming that Hirani was writing the script.
He added: “Hopefully once I’m back in the next couple of weeks, he’s going to narrate the final version to me. So, fingers crossed.” The comments point to progress on the project, but no production or release date has been announced.
The 2009 film, also directed by Hirani, became a popular comedy-drama about friendship, college life and pressure within the education system. It starred Khan alongside R. Madhavan, Sharman Joshi and Kareena Kapoor Khan.
Khan also hinted at a possible sequel to the 1994 comedy *Andaz Apna Apna*, saying director Rajkumar Santoshi was working on “something,” but offered no further details.
The Singapore conversation ranged beyond upcoming films. Khan spoke about making more time for family and friends after reflecting on how decades of work had affected his personal life. He became emotional while discussing that realisation, saying he was glad it came at 56 rather than 86.
He also recalled signing nine films within six months after the success of Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak in 1988, a decision he later regretted as the projects began to fail. The festival marked the 25th anniversary of Lagaan, Khan’s first film as a producer, with a special screening.
For now, 3 Idiots 2 remains at the script stage. Khan’s update offers a promising sign for fans, while the next major step will depend on the script and the filmmakers’ plans.
