Dbarta24 Health Desk – Five more children have died from measles-like symptoms in Bangladesh in the 24 hours leading up to Wednesday morning, bringing the nationwide death toll from measles and suspected measles cases to 854 since mid-March.
According to a daily bulletin released by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, a total of 1,083 new cases with measles symptoms were reported across the country during the same 24-hour period. Laboratory testing confirmed measles in 124 of these newly identified patients.
Health authorities reported that 865 children were admitted to various hospitals nationwide within the 24-hour window, while 998 patients were discharged following treatment.
The official DGHS data reveals a severe public health burden over the past five months. Between March 15 and August 5, Bangladesh recorded 132,905 suspected measles cases, with laboratory tests confirming the virus in 16,655 individuals.
Out of the 854 recorded fatalities during this timeframe, 96 deaths were explicitly confirmed to be caused by measles, while 758 children succumbed to measles-like symptoms.
Since the onset of the outbreak in March, 115,234 patients have required hospitalization for treatment, with 111,005 recovering and returning home so far.
Health officials continue to monitor the situation as hospitals manage the ongoing influx of affected children.
