8 More Children Die of Measles and Measles-Like Symptoms in Bangladesh

Health Desk ; Dhaka –  At least eight more children have died of measles and measles-related symptoms across Bangladesh in the last 24 hours (from 8:00 AM Sunday to 8:00 AM Monday).

Among them, one death was confirmed from measles, while the remaining seven exhibited severe symptoms of the disease.

With these latest fatalities, the total death toll from measles and measles-like symptoms in the country has risen to 628, according to the latest report released by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Monday.

Of the eight children who died in the past 24 hours, three were from the Dhaka division. The remaining five fatalities were reported individually from Chittagong, Rajshahi, Sylhet, Mymensingh, and Rangpur divisions.

The DGHS report further revealed that 1,092 suspected measles cases were identified during this 24-hour window. Additionally, 974 children were admitted to hospitals nationwide with measles-like symptoms.

Dhaka division recorded the highest number of hospitalizations with 346 children, followed by Chittagong with 221 admissions, and Barisal with 134.

On a positive note, 1,194 patients recovered and were discharged from various hospitals during the same period.
