Measles Outbreak in Bangladesh: 6 More Children Die, Total Fatalities Reach 317

Labonnya Liza; DHAKA – The measles situation in Bangladesh continues to worsen as six more children died from the disease and related symptoms in the last 24 hours (ending Tuesday morning).

Among the deceased, two were confirmed measles cases, while four exhibited symptoms of the virus.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the two confirmed deaths occurred in Dhaka.

Meanwhile, two deaths with measles symptoms were reported in Khulna and Rajshahi, and two others in Sylhet.

Rising Infections and Hospitalizations

The latest report from the DGHS reveals a sharp increase in suspected cases across the country. In the last 24 hours alone, 1,186 children were identified with measles symptoms.

  • Total Symptomatic Cases: 42,979 children.

Health Authorities on High Alert

The DGHS is closely monitoring the situation as the number of infections rises. Health officials emphasize that timely vaccination and early detection are critical to reducing the mortality rate.

Parents are urged to seek immediate medical attention if their children show symptoms such as high fever, cough, runny nose, or the characteristic red rashes.
