Air Quality in Dhaka Deemed Unhealthy

Khairul Alam , Dhaka: Dhaka, Bangladesh’s capital, finds itself ranked seventh in the list of cities with the most concerning air pollution levels.

Topping the chart is Lahore, Pakistan, with a staggering score of 294, signifying extremely unhealthy air quality. Following closely is Delhi, India, with a score of 198, indicating similarly hazardous conditions.

Baghdad, Iraq, secures the third position with a score of 171, while Hanoi, Vietnam, claims the fourth spot. Tehran, Iran, and Yangon, Myanmar, occupy the fifth and sixth positions respectively.

Dhaka’s air quality index stands at 160, falling into the unhealthy category, posing risks particularly to sensitive groups.

The scoring system categorizes air quality from 0 to 50 as good, 51 to 100 as moderate, 101 to 150 as unhealthy for sensitive groups, 151 to 200 as unhealthy, and above 201 as very unhealthy, even hazardous.

Efforts to address this concerning issue in Dhaka are crucial, as prolonged exposure to such levels of pollution can have severe health implications.

Authorities and citizens alike must work together to mitigate the factors contributing to this unhealthy air quality and ensure a safer environment for all.
