Desk Report: According to the latest data from IQAir, Delhi, India, ranks first in air pollution among 125 cities worldwide on Saturday, with an air quality index (AQI) score of 489, considered “disastrous.”
Lahore, Pakistan, follows in second place with a score of 293, classified as “very unhealthy.”
The Switzerland-based organization IQAir updated its air pollution index on its website, providing real-time data on the air quality in various cities, offering warnings about how clean or polluted the air is.
Kazakhstan’s Astana, Pakistan’s Karachi, and Vietnam’s Hanoi occupy the 3rd, 4th, and 5th spots on the list, with scores of 235, 212, and 183, respectively.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh holds a relatively less hazardous position with a score of 142, categorized as “unhealthy for sensitive groups.”
According to IQAir’s standards:
- A score of 51 to 100 is considered “moderate” or “acceptable.”
- A score of 101 to 150 is deemed “unhealthy for sensitive groups.”
- A score between 151 and 200 is considered “unhealthy.”
- A score of 201 to 300 is “very unhealthy.”
- A score above 301 is classified as “disastrous” or “hazardous.”
To protect against the air pollution in Dhaka, IQAir recommends that sensitive groups wear masks when going outside and avoid outdoor exercise.
