AL Leader in Bogura Jail Dies of Heart Attack

Bogura Correspondent: Shahadat Alam Jhunu, the Organizing Secretary of the Bogura District Awami League, has passed away after suffering a heart attack while in jail.

He died on Tuesday afternoon while being transferred to Dhaka for advanced medical treatment.

Shahadat Hossain Jhunu was a former principal of the Bogura Police Lines School and College.

He had been arrested during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and was facing two murder charges. Jhunu was arrested from his residence in the Malatinagar area of the city on Sunday night.

According to jail sources, Shahadat Alam fell suddenly ill while taking a bath in the morning. He was given initial treatment at the jail.

As his condition worsened by midday, prison authorities decided to transfer him to the Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital for advanced care.

He was admitted to the hospital’s cardiology department’s ICU. As his condition deteriorated further, he was to be transferred to the National Heart Institute in Dhaka for better treatment.

However, on the way to Dhaka, he fell critically ill near Sirajganj. He was rushed to the Captain Monsur Ali Medical College Hospital in Sirajganj, where he was declared dead shortly before evening.
