Death Toll Rises to 7 in Devastating Bogura Bus Crash, 15 Injured

Bogura Correspondent; Dbarta24 — A tragic road accident in Bogura’s Sadar Upazila has claimed the lives of at least seven people and left 15 others injured after an overspeeding passenger bus lost control and ploughed into a group of roadside workers early Friday morning.
 
The incident took place around 5:30 AM on August 7, 2026, along the busy Bogura-Naogaon regional highway in the Erulia area.

 

Sequence of Events

According to local authorities, an air-conditioned passenger bus operated by Shah Fateh Ali Paribahan was traveling overnight from Dhaka toward Naogaon. As the vehicle reached Erulia, the driver reportedly lost control of the steering wheel.
 
The bus veered off the road and hit a group of day laborers and agricultural workers who were gathered by the roadside waiting for morning work.
 
Three people died instantly on the spot due to the impact. Four more succumbed to their injuries after being rushed to the hospital, bringing the total fatal count to seven. At least 15 others sustained severe injuries, with several currently in critical condition.

 

Victim Identification and Emergency Response

Emergency responders and local residents rushed to the scene immediately following the crash to rescue victims trapped under the vehicle and assist the wounded.
 
The injured were swiftly transported to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital (SZRMCH) in Bogura, where medical staff are treating multiple individuals for critical trauma.

 

Police have confirmed the identities of five of the deceased so far:

 

  • Belal Hossain (37) — Bogura
  • Amirul Islam (45) — Gaibandha
  • Nur Alam (35) — Gaibandha
  • Fayzar Rahman (43) — Gaibandha
  • Abdur Rahim (46) — Gaibandha
Efforts are currently underway to verify the identities of the remaining two victims.

 

Official Statement & Investigation

Confirming the details of the tragedy, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Shafiqul Islam Shafiq of Bogura Sadar Police Station stated:

 

“An air-conditioned bus of Shah Fateh Ali Paribahan, heading to Naogaon from Dhaka, lost control in the Erulia area early in the morning and ran over day laborers and agricultural workers standing beside the highway. Three died on the spot, while four others passed away after being taken to the hospital.”
ASI Shafiq added that police forces are actively working at the scene and hospital to complete identification procedures, clear highway traffic, and investigate the precise cause behind the driver losing control.
