International Desk : Four brave astronauts are returning to Earth after a historic journey around the Moon. The Artemis II mission has officially set a new record for the farthest distance humans have ever traveled from our planet.
The crew includes NASA’s Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, and Christina Koch, along with Jeremy Hansen from the Canadian Space Agency.
On Monday, their Orion capsule reached the far side of the Moon, traveling about 406,788 kilometers (252,760 miles) away from Earth. This broke the previous record set by the Apollo 13 mission in 1970.
The journey back home will take about four days. If everything goes as planned, they will splash down in the Pacific Ocean on April 10 at 8:07 PM Eastern Time.
NASA and the U.S. Navy are ready to recover the crew. Once the capsule lands in the water, helicopters will pick up the astronauts and take them to a nearby naval ship for medical checkups before they head back to land.
