Bangladesh Bank Website Reopens After Three-Day Cybersecurity Shutdown

Bangladesh Bank headquarters in Dhaka; the central bank’s official website reopened after a three-day precautionary shutdown.

Dbarta24 Business Desk- Bangladesh Bank reopened its official website at 8am on Sunday, three days after taking it offline as a precaution amid fears of a possible cyberattack.

The shutdown did not disrupt internet or mobile banking, and customers were able to continue making transactions as usual, according to the report.

Bank spokesperson Arif Hossain Khan said the website was taken offline to check for possible security problems. He said the decision followed concerns about a worldwide cyber threat and that the site was restored after the risk had passed.

The concern was linked to two serious security flaws found in PHP, a programming language used to build and run many websites.

Governments and businesses in several countries also temporarily took websites offline or applied security updates in response to the reported vulnerabilities.

Bangladesh Bank’s website is now available again. The bank’s spokesperson said checks had been carried out before it was reopened.
