Dbarta24 Report – Bangladesh is set to significantly increase its orders for Boeing aircraft from the United States under a new billion-dollar deal, according to US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor.
Gor disclosed the development in a post on X on Sunday night, saying US President Donald Trump and the Bangladesh prime minister had reached what he described as an “incredible deal” during the week.
According to the US envoy, Bangladesh has committed to spending billions of dollars on Boeing aircraft, with the new purchase expected to be substantially larger than its previous order.
“This week, President Trump and the Prime Minister of Bangladesh made another incredible deal, where Bangladesh committed to spending billions of dollars on Boeing aircraft, significantly more than their previous order,” Gor wrote on X.
However, he did not provide details about the number of aircraft involved, the specific Boeing models to be purchased or the total value of the new agreement.
Bangladesh Expanding Its Boeing Order
The latest announcement comes amid ongoing trade discussions between Bangladesh and the United States.
Gor visited Bangladesh from July 30 to August 1. His latest statement followed that visit. No immediate comment from the Bangladesh government was available regarding the US ambassador’s announcement.
Bangladesh had already increased its planned Boeing purchases in July 2025 as part of efforts to modernize and expand the fleet of national flag carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines.
The planned purchase was increased from 14 aircraft to 25 at the time.
Later, in April, Biman Bangladesh Airlines signed an agreement with Boeing to purchase 14 new aircraft.
14 Boeing Aircraft Already Under Agreement
Under the existing agreement, Biman is scheduled to acquire:
-
Eight Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners
-
Two Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners
-
Four Boeing 737-8 MAX aircraft
The estimated market value of those 14 aircraft is around $3.7 billion, equivalent to roughly Tk 45,000 crore.
The first aircraft is expected to be delivered to Bangladesh by November 2031, while the remaining aircraft are scheduled to join Biman’s fleet by October 2035.
The reported new agreement could therefore represent a major expansion of Bangladesh’s long-term aircraft procurement plans, although its exact scope remains unclear.
Shift from Airbus to Boeing
Bangladesh’s aircraft procurement policy has also undergone a significant change in recent years.
During the previous Awami League government, a policy decision had been taken to purchase 10 Airbus aircraft.
Following the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government during the 2024 mass uprising, the interim government moved toward Boeing purchases as part of broader efforts to strengthen trade ties with the United States and reduce the bilateral trade gap.
The latest announcement, if formally confirmed by the Bangladesh government, could further strengthen Boeing’s position in Bangladesh’s commercial aviation market.
For now, key details—including the number and models of aircraft and the total financial value of the new deal—remain undisclosed.
