Saad Sajid; Dhaka : The Bangladesh government has expressed interest in leasing aircraft from the U.S.-based manufacturer, Boeing. This information was shared in a press release from the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism on Monday.

The announcement followed a meeting between Boeing Vice President Paul Righi and Aviation Minister Afroza Khanam at her office. State Minister M. Rashiduzzaman Millat was also present during the discussion.

According to the release, the meeting covered various aspects of a previous agreement with the interim government regarding the purchase of Boeing aircraft. To meet current aviation demands, the Minister emphasized the need to lease planes as quickly as possible.

In response, Paul Righi showed interest in leasing “narrow-body aircraft,” specifically from the Boeing 737 series.

Sources indicate that the government is moving toward finalizing a deal to purchase 14 Boeing aircraft as part of a larger plan to modernize the Biman Bangladesh Airlines fleet. The first of these purchased aircraft is expected to be delivered in October 2031.
