Bangladesh Garments: Apparel exports increased by 12.46 percent in July-August

Md. Ilias Hossen: In the first two months of the current financial year, July-August, garment exports increased by 12.46 percent to 7.99 billion US dollars. Which was 7.11 billion US dollars in the same period of the fiscal year 2022-23.

The Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) stated this information in a report on Monday (September 4).

Garment export target for July-August 2023 was $7.88 billion. The apparel sector exported goods worth US$ 7.99 billion. Which is 1.46 percent more than the target.

According to EPB data, exports of knitwear were $4.58 billion, while exports of woven garments were $3.42 billion. Which has increased by 17.2 percent and 6.86 percent respectively compared to the previous year.

In addition to garment exports, there has been 9.66 percent growth in manufacturing products in the two months of July and August. At the same time, 25.53 percent in chemical products and 20.73 percent in specialty textiles.

On the other hand, agriculture, leather and jute products are showing negative growth. Compared to July-August of the last financial year, the same period of this year has seen a negative growth of 0.80 percent, 12.73 percent and 10.31 percent respectively.
