Bangladesh Imports 50,280 Bags of Salt from India

Health Report: A shipment of 50,280 bags of salt, imported from India, arrived at the Benapole Port on Tuesday evening, October 3rd.

This import comes in addition to the one million seventy-three thousand bags of salt already brought in by Dhaka-based company Jass Corporation via six consignments from India.

The salt supplier from India is Gentex Pharmaceuticals, a salt producer.

Each bag of imported salt has been purchased at a price of BDT 61.35. This initial shipment is part of a plan to import a total of approximately seven hundred thousand bags of salt from India.

Jahangir Alam, a representative of the importer, expressed that the imported salt will play a significant role during the current crisis, allowing people to purchase salt at a more affordable price.

Abdul Jalil, the Chief Executive of the Benapole Land Port, mentioned that the port authorities are working collaboratively to ensure a swift clearance process for the imported salt, making it readily available in the market.

Prior to this, on September 9, Health Minister Zahid Maleque had conveyed the government’s decision to import salt to regulate prices and maintain a stable supply.
