Sports Report: In the first ODI of the series held in Mirpur, Bangladesh, rain played spoilsport, ultimately leading to the match being abandoned.
Today, on Saturday, Bangladesh and New Zealand are set to clash in the second ODI at the same venue, and there are concerns about rain once again.
In the first ODI, New Zealand won the toss and sent Bangladesh in to bat. Due to rain interruptions, the match was reduced to 42 overs.
When play was halted, Bangladesh had scored 136 for the loss of 5 wickets in 33.4 overs, with 8.2 overs of their innings remaining.
Although there is no expectation of rain from this morning onwards, there is a 90% to 80% chance of rain during the start time and one hour afterward. Rain is also likely at 1 PM and 2 PM, with a 90% chance, and at 3 PM, there’s an 80% chance.
However, rain probabilities decrease during the late afternoon and evening. From 4 PM to 5 PM, there’s a 50% chance of rain, and after that, the chance of rain dropping significantly to just 20%.
In this scenario, the match might start a bit delayed, possibly in the late afternoon if the rain holds off. Rain could still affect the match even if it starts in the afternoon.
The likelihood of a 50-over match is quite low. If the rain eases off after the afternoon, there is a possibility of a match with 35-40 overs.
So, while a full 50-over match might be unlikely, there’s still a decent chance of a reduced-overs game if the rain permits.
