Staff Correspondent | DHAKA – Faced with dissatisfaction and criticism from field-level officers, the Bangladesh Police uniform is set to undergo another transformation. A proposal to amend the ‘Police Dress Rules, 2025’ regarding color and design has been sent to the Ministry of Home Affairs. Once approved, the new uniforms will be implemented in phases.

Proposed Changes

According to sources, a letter signed by Additional DIG Sarwar Jahan of the Logistics Branch at Police Headquarters detailed the proposed changes. The new plan introduces different colors based on units:

  • Metropolitan Police: Light Olive shirts.

  • Other Units: Dark Blue shirts.

  • Trousers: Khaki for all units.

Officials hope this integrated color scheme will provide both practical convenience and a distinct professional identity.

Why the “Iron Grey” Uniform Failed

In November 2025, the “Iron Grey” uniform was introduced as part of a modernization drive. While it was initially rolled out for metropolitan and specialized units, it immediately met with resistance.

Field-level members complained that their opinions were not considered during the decision-making process. Concerns were raised that the grey color caused confusion with other forces and deviated too far from the traditional khaki identity of the police. Additionally, questions were raised about the fabric’s suitability for the local climate and the demanding nature of police duties.

Next Steps

Public reaction on social media also played a role in the reconsideration. Authorities state that implementing the new proposal will not require a massive additional budget. The transition will be managed through the regular supply chain, replacing the old “Iron Grey” kits as they wear out.

This shift, occurring within just a year of the last change, is being viewed as a corrective measure to ensure the force has a stable and acceptable uniform structure moving forward.
