Sports Desk – Barcelona have taken a significant step toward retaining their La Liga title following a clinical 2-0 victory against Getafe on Saturday.
The win, combined with Real Madrid’s recent draw, extends the Catalan giants’ lead at the top of the table to 11 points.
Fermin Lopez broke the deadlock late in the first half. Receiving a pinpoint pass from midfielder Pedri, Lopez calmly slotted the ball past Getafe goalkeeper David Soria to give Barca the lead.
Getafe tightened their defense after the break, but Barcelona continued to press for a second.
While Soria managed to save a sharp strike from Dani Olmo, he could not stop Marcus Rashford in the 74th minute.
The English star doubled the lead with a simple finish after being set up by Robert Lewandowski.
The match also marked a historic milestone for Robert Lewandowski. By providing the assist for the second goal, he reached 100 goal contributions in La Liga (81 goals and 19 assists).
