Desk Report: The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has issued a warning regarding the spread of baseless and fabricated information on social media about the BGB and its Director General, Major General Ashraf, in relation to the anti-discrimination student protests.
On Saturday, November 30, the BGB shared a statement on its verified Facebook page, stating that a group of individuals is deliberately spreading false propaganda to create confusion among the public.
The false claims include allegations that the BGB led violent actions during the student protests, dressed Indian citizens in BGB uniforms to suppress the movement, and even orchestrated a conspiracy to keep Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in power while killing students.
The BGB clarified the following facts in its post:
- The claim that the BGB Director General ordered the killing of protesters is completely false and fabricated.
- There is no truth to the allegation that Indian citizens were dressed in BGB uniforms to suppress the protests.
- There were no discussions about killing 10,000 people or keeping Sheikh Hasina in power on August 5.
- From the morning of August 5, the BGB supported the students and public at the entrance of Dhaka.
- Any BGB member who displayed unprofessional behavior has faced disciplinary action.
The statement also emphasized that these attempts to tarnish the reputation of the BGB and its leadership are being orchestrated by vested interests, using a video to mislead the public.
The BGB urged people to ignore the false propaganda and stand with the truth.
