National Desk – The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) has finally taken back the 28 individuals who were stranded under the open sky at the Bangabari border zero line in Gomastapur Upazila of Chapainawabganj for two consecutive days.
The update was confirmed by Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Ariful Islam, the Commanding Officer of the Naogaon Battalion (16 BGB), who stated that the BSF removed the individuals late Friday night.
According to the BGB Commander, the group of 28 had been occupying a spot roughly 50 yards inside Indian territory from the zero line. As of today, there is no longer any presence or movement of these individuals within 150 yards of the border.
BGB Flustered BSF’s Push-In Attempt
The standoff began in the early hours of June 4, when BSF personnel attempted to forcefully push the 28 individuals across the Bangabari border into Bangladesh. The group consisted of 12 men, 10 women, and 6 children.
However, the BSF’s unilateral attempt was instantly foiled due to the strict vigilance, alert deployment, and immediate counter-action by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).
Following the failed push-in attempt, the individuals were forced to stay on the Indian side of the zero line. Saddm Hossain, the Panel Chairman of Bangabari Union Parishad, noted that the stranded group had to endure harsh weather, including storms and heavy rain, under the open sky for the last two days.
“The border situation is being monitored with intense scrutiny. We have maintained the highest level of alertness along the frontier to prevent and tackle any kind of untoward incident or illegal entry.” — Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Ariful Islam, CO, Naogaon Battalion (16 BGB)
