Cyber Security: NID service is back on

Khairul Alam: The NID service was temporarily suspended for maintenance and security reasons. But it’s now operational, said the director general of the National Identity Card Registration Division AKM Humayun Kabir on Wednesday (August 16).

In response to a question from journalists at Agargaon Election Hall, he also said that the NID service has been temporarily stopped. The NID server was closed for some time for some work including maintenance.

NID services are mainly shut down for maintenance and security purposes. But now NID service has been started.

He said, the server is still open and other work is going on. We are temporarily closed for maintenance.

Besides, I saw in the newspaper that there might be a threat on the server at the moment. We thought – we will move the server to the national database.

If the server of this database has been hacked. Our people said that there is no danger at the moment.

117 institutions and common citizens get services from here. I am doing this for the safety of all people. I will not let the country fall at any level.

Regarding not informing publicly before discontinuing NID service, NID DG said, I have informed 171 institutions taking service from here. But it was not announced publicly as it could have created panic.
