Dengue Claims Highest Single-Day Death Toll This Year

Health Desk: In the past 24 hours, from 8 AM on Saturday to 8 AM on Sunday, eight people have died from dengue fever, marking the highest single-day death toll this year.

This surpasses the previous day’s record of seven deaths.

The total number of dengue-related deaths in the country this year has now reached 158. In addition, 1,221 new patients were admitted to hospitals during this period, bringing the total number of hospitalizations this year to 29,786.

According to a report from the Directorate General of Health Services, the new hospital admissions included 74 from the Barisal division, 183 from Chattogram, 267 from outside the Dhaka city corporation, 206 from Dhaka North City, 228 from Dhaka South City, 134 from Khulna, 53 from Rajshahi, 48 from Mymensingh, and 28 from Rangpur.

On a positive note, 1,090 dengue patients were discharged from hospitals in the last day, increasing the total number of recoveries this year to 26,331.

In comparison, last year, a staggering 321,179 people were hospitalized due to dengue, resulting in 1,705 fatalities.
